Standard Service Calls:
A standard on-site Service Call costs $179 plus tax. Payment is due upon the completion of service. Your Technician can accept credit, debit, cash, check, or PayPal.
You can save money, and ensure regular PC maintenance, by purchasing our Annual Plan which includes 4 (four) discounted Standard Service Calls for use throughout the year. The cost for this bundle is $599.
Non-Standard Services:
A “Non-Standard Service” refers to any service that isn’t included in a Standard Service Call, such as data backup, factory resets, or hardware upgrades.
Non-Standard Services can be added to a Standard Service Call at any time, and there is no additional charge unless the service call exceeds three hours. After three hours, additional time is billed at our standard hourly rate of $75.00, billed in half hour increments of $35.00.
Extenuating Circumstances:
There are a few variables that could cause a Service Call to end before a repair is completed.
- A computer cannot be repaired because a replacement part is no longer available.
- A computer should not be repaired because diagnostics indicate that repair costs would exceed the computer’s worth.
- A computer requires a service that can only be performed at our repair facility, but you’ve declined off-site repair.
- A computer is left unrepaired because you have declined a part or service that was determined by diagnostics to be necessary to complete the repair.
In these situations, should you decide to purchase a new computer, we can help set up the new PC with your internet, printer, and peripherals – then transfer any data from the old machine.
If you’ve declined all solutions offered by your technician, and once any other questions or concerns have been addressed, your Service Call will be considered complete. You’ll be invoiced only for the time your technician has spent on-site at our standard hourly rate of $55.00 (billed in half hour increments of $27.50 after the first hour).
Computer & Parts Purchases:
If diagnostics determine that a critical component of a computer is faulty, then this hardware must be replaced before continuing service to that device.
For your convenience, our technicians carry a very small selection of common parts for sale.
For anything else, we’re happy to scout out the best deal for you (both in-store & online). Brainy Beaver does not mark up prices for retail purchases, so we’ll always have your best interests in mind.
You may purchase the item directly from the vendor, or you can pre-pay your technician for a purchase they will make on your behalf.
WARRANTY & RETURNS: Purchases made from third party vendors are subject to the warranty and return policies of the vendor. Common parts purchased directly from a Brainy Beaver technician are non-refundable once opened, and are guaranteed only by the item’s manufacturer warranty.
- We never perform paid services without your prior consent.
- We never pitch unnecessary parts or services to our customers.
- We always support our solutions with a 30 day guarantee, excluding malware removal when the user was responsible for the virus re-infection.
Step 1: Reserve an appointment
To reserve an appointment, click here or call (973) 216-3666.
Appointments may be scheduled between 10 AM and 7 PM any day of the week (excluding major holidays), on a first-come, first-serve basis. A Standard Service Call will last between two and three hours.
Step 2: Greet your technician
At your scheduled time, our technician will arrive at the address you’ve provided.
After you’ve explained the reason(s) that prompted your call, the first step of every Service Call is a full diagnostic on each computer.
Step 3: Service
After diagnostics, your technician will generate a Work Authorization form to detail all the tasks necessary to achieve your intended results. It will also display an itemized cost breakdown for all parts, equipment &/or services, including sales tax, parts-pickup &/or shipping costs when applicable.
Once signed, your technician will complete all Standard Services, address the specific issues you’ve experienced, and repair any new issues discovered during diagnostics.
Step 4: Questions and answers
Once all services listed in the Work Authorization form have been completed, and all your questions have been addressed, your Service Call will be considered complete.

Malware is the general term that is used to describe many types of malicious software, including: viruses, worms, trojans, root-kits, spyware, adware, and others.
A virus, more specifically, refers to a type of malware that can replicate and copy itself to other unsecured computers on its network.
Most malware will reveal itself in the form of pop-ups, changed internet settings, slow boot times, or loss of internet connectivity. More malicious software hides itself completely – mining your information and discreetly sending it out to its source.
To get this answer we tested many popular antivirus options, and found that nearly all kept the malware out, but not all were created equal in regards to their impact on a computer’s resources.
Additionally, many of the antivirus options we tested were confusing, and frequently displayed pop-ups with questions that only a technician could understand.
Lastly, we pitted our top five choices against a highly-infected computer to see which did the best job with the virus removal.
Based on our results, we recommend using the following combination of software:
Windows Defender is built by Microsoft, and is free for life, auto-updating, and easy to understand. It is not the most completely secure option, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium ($24.99 p/y) supplements Windows Defender perfectly, leaving your PC even more secure than other popular antivirus options.
Additionally, neither program comes with bloat, leaving your RAM, CPU and other resources free for what you’re actually working on.
Your technician will accept any unwanted equipment as a trade-in, as a donation, or for environmentally-safe recycling.
